Screenwriter Scott Kosar is undoubtedly best known for his chilling screenplay for the daring Christian Bale thriller "The Machinist." After earning a BA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Kosar began penning the script for "The Machinist" while working toward his MFA in Screenwriting at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. It took several years to get the challenging film into production, but during that time Kosar's screenplay made the rounds in Hollywood and drew the notice of Michael Bay. This led to Kosar's writing the 2003 remake of the iconic slasher horror "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," which Bay produced. When "The Machinist" finally hit theaters the following year, audiences were stunned not only by the psychedelic tale of an insomniac driven mad by his affliction, but also by the striking appearance of the shockingly emaciated Bale--the actor had lost approximately 63 pounds to play the tormented insomniac. The film was critically heralded, and, with the box-office success of his first horror remake, Kosar was hired to revamp other macabre movies such as the haunted-house story "The Amityville Horror" and the epidemic thriller "The Crazies."
